NATIONAL MUSEUM - CASA GIUSTI IN MONSUMMANO TERME
The National Museum - Casa Giusti is located just in the heart of Monsummano Terme, a termal town very close from Montecatini Terme.
This interesting national museum commemorates Italian poet Giuseppe Giusti (1809 - 1850) who was born in this house. The building was built in the XVIII century with a late-rococo taste. The armorial bearings, in the centre of the frontage, shows the intention to build an adapted habitation to its social preeminence and dignity of nobility. The internal mural paintings just inspire to those criterions, like: a loggia in the hall, mythological subjects and grotesque decorations in the saloons.
The Casa Giusti was buying from the State and was renovated in 1972, then was used as a museum. On the first floor, you can admire furnishings and objects from the era, while on the second one, an unique section documenting the poet's works.
The museum is open:
from November 1 to April 30:
Wednesday to Monday (8am to 2pm and 3pm to 6pm)
from May 1 to October 31:
Wednesday to Monday (8am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm)
closed Tuesdays.
Admission is free. The structure is accessible to the disabled; all architectural barriers were eliminated during the restoration project carried out in 2005.
